Coffee of the Month - Colombia La Plata Women's Project

Cherry, Strawberry Jam, Red Berry
£8.00 GBP

This vibrant lot opens with a rich burst of boozy cherry, reminiscent of macerated cherries or cherry liqueur.  This develops into a strawberry jam and ripe red fruit flavour.  There is also a subtle sweet funk and rich panela sugar sweetness bringing complexity without overpowering.  There is a wine-like acidity that carries the fruity notes to the finish resulting in a elegant and beautifully layered cup.

Tucked into the lush mountains of La Plata in Huila, CoAgroBrisas is more than a cooperative, it’s a community built around coffee, resilience, and shared progress. Here, 156 producers work side by side across 870 hectares of coffee farmland, united by a belief that great coffee begins with strong relationships and shared knowledge.

CoAgroBrisas was founded with a simple but powerful purpose: to provide farmers with the technical support, infrastructure, and collective strength needed to improve both coffee quality and quality of life. Through hands-on agronomic training, shared learning, and ongoing technical assistance, producers refine their craft year after year. The cooperative also offers drying facilities for farmers who may not have the infrastructure at home, ensuring every lot reaches its full potential.

What truly sets CoAgroBrisas apart is its collaborative spirit. Members cup their coffees together, learn together, and sell together, combining their volumes to access better markets and stronger prices.

At the heart of the cooperative is a dedicated women’s program supporting 33 female coffee growers who farm around 100 hectares of land and produce an impressive 235,000 kilograms of parchment coffee each year. This initiative goes beyond production, it’s about empowerment. Through a partnership with the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation, coffees produced by these women receive a premium paid directly into their bank accounts, encouraging financial independence, confident business management, and long-term sustainability within their communities.

Harvest season runs from May to July, when the main crop is carefully picked at peak ripeness. A smaller mid-crop, known locally as the mitaca, follows from October to December. Across both harvests, CoAgroBrisas collectively produces around 1.1 million kilograms of parchment coffee annually - a reflection of both scale and dedication.

Every cup from CoAgroBrisas carries the character of Huila’s fertile landscape and the commitment of a cooperative that believes in lifting one another up. This is Colombian coffee rooted in community, crafted with care, and driven by purpose.

How will my coffee be packaged?

We use heat sealed bags with a one-way valve (to let gases escape but none in) and this will keep your coffee fresh for up to four months unopened (if you really want to keep it that long!)  We use box-bottomed resealable valve bags as our default but if you want the tall non-resealable valve bags then please ask in the notes for order section.  We then pack your bags of coffee into bespoke cardboard boxes.  These will prevent your coffee from being damaged in transit and are 100% recyclable.

Where does The Bean Shop deliver to?

We currently deliver all over the UK and Europe.  It can get a bit tricky further afield than that as it becomes increasingly difficult to keep track on the parcel's whereabouts. To be honest there is probably a coffee roaster a bit closer if you're outside Europe anyway!

How much does postage cost?

No-one really likes paying for postage but in order to avoid increasing our prices we have opted to charge a flat-rate of £3.00 for all our UK orders.  This is expensive if you only buy one bag of coffee but becomes very reasonable if you order more bags.  We use Royal Mail 1st class for orders up to 3 bags.  For orders 4 bags and over we use DPD 48 hour delivery as a default (this option will require a signature upon delivery.)

In geographically isolated areas of the UK, DPD can take longer than 48 hours so we have added the option of paying for Royal Mail which could be more efficient.

How long will it take?

We aim to deliver your order within 48 hours of receiving it (under normal circumstances) and are often much quicker!  During peak periods (i.e. Christmas) your order may take a little longer due to delays or extreme weather conditions.

If I'm not in?

For orders of 1 bag of coffee our boxes are post-box friendly so should be delivered whether or not you're in.  For larger parcels, usually the delivery person will leave a card saying it has been returned to the post depot where you can collect it from.  Many customers find it easier to have their coffee delivered to their place of work so that there is always someone there to accept it.
