Ethiopia Guji Tero Farm Natural

£9.50 GBP

Tucked into the hills near Shakiso in the Tero Kebelle district of Guji, Dimtu Tero Farm sits between 1,808 and 2,220 metres above sea level. This is a landscape of rolling grasslands, forest edges and mineral rich volcanic soil, a place where young Arabica trees thrive and deliver characterful harvests year after year.

Guji is a region of striking contrasts. Shifts in altitude and vegetation create a patchwork of microclimates, and in the cup that diversity shows itself as soft, juicy coffees layered with sweetness. Think ripe strawberry, blueberry and peach, with a gentle florality that carries through the natural lot.

Until relatively recently, Guji coffee barely featured on export lists. Over the past decade, young investors began building washing stations and processing sites in the region, giving local farmers the opportunity to grow coffee as a meaningful source of income. What followed was a quiet transformation. Today Guji stands confidently among Ethiopia’s most celebrated coffee origins.

Dimtu Tero is run by Dimtu Coffee Industry PLC under the careful guidance of Getachew Zeleke. The farm itself spans 151 hectares of semi forest land, so seamlessly woven into its surroundings that it is difficult to see where cultivation ends and forest begins. Alongside production from the estate, Dimtu also works with 416 outgrowers whose small garden plots surround the villages of Tero, Jelewo Anona, Mancity and Hangadi.

For Getachew, partnership sits at the heart of quality. The smallholders he works with are paid above average prices for their cherries and are supported with seeds and equipment. In return, they commit to careful harvesting and long term stewardship of their land. Around 140 farmers are closely involved in the core community, building a sustainable and transparent model that has become a benchmark within Guji.

Coffee in this part of Ethiopia is more than a crop. It plays a central role in daily life, in ritual and in ceremony. It is shared as a blessing and offered in respect to community leaders known as Abba Gadaa. Although Getachew grew up in Addis Ababa, his family’s move south shaped his path into coffee. He witnessed first hand the growth of Guji’s coffee culture, inspired by early pioneers such as Haile and Tesfaye, and chose to be part of that story.

Dimtu Tero produces both washed and natural coffees, expressive yet classic examples of the Guji profile. On a walk through the trees, Getachew will happily point out the 74110 and 74112 varieties developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre in 1974, selected for their resilience and cup quality.

The journey from Addis Ababa takes the best part of a day and a half by road. As you leave Yirgacheffe behind, the scenery opens into the wide, undulating plains of Guji. The roads improve slightly, the air feels expansive, and coffee grows alongside grazing land in a landscape that feels both generous and grounded.

Dimtu Tero is a reflection of that landscape. Thoughtful farming, genuine partnership and a deep respect for tradition come together here, resulting in coffees that are vibrant, sweet and unmistakably Guji.

How will my coffee be packaged?

We use heat sealed bags with a one-way valve (to let gases escape but none in) and this will keep your coffee fresh for up to four months unopened (if you really want to keep it that long!)  We use box-bottomed resealable valve bags as our default but if you want the tall non-resealable valve bags then please ask in the notes for order section.  We then pack your bags of coffee into bespoke cardboard boxes.  These will prevent your coffee from being damaged in transit and are 100% recyclable.

Where does The Bean Shop deliver to?

We currently deliver all over the UK and Europe.  It can get a bit tricky further afield than that as it becomes increasingly difficult to keep track on the parcel's whereabouts. To be honest there is probably a coffee roaster a bit closer if you're outside Europe anyway!

How much does postage cost?

No-one really likes paying for postage but in order to avoid increasing our prices we have opted to charge a flat-rate of £3.00 for all our UK orders.  This is expensive if you only buy one bag of coffee but becomes very reasonable if you order more bags.  We use Royal Mail 1st class for orders up to 3 bags.  For orders 4 bags and over we use DPD 48 hour delivery as a default (this option will require a signature upon delivery.)

In geographically isolated areas of the UK, DPD can take longer than 48 hours so we have added the option of paying for Royal Mail which could be more efficient.

How long will it take?

We aim to deliver your order within 48 hours of receiving it (under normal circumstances) and are often much quicker!  During peak periods (i.e. Christmas) your order may take a little longer due to delays or extreme weather conditions.

If I'm not in?

For orders of 1 bag of coffee our boxes are post-box friendly so should be delivered whether or not you're in.  For larger parcels, usually the delivery person will leave a card saying it has been returned to the post depot where you can collect it from.  Many customers find it easier to have their coffee delivered to their place of work so that there is always someone there to accept it.
