Peru Tapir Andino Yellow Honey Fairtrade 100% Organic

blueberry, cherry, jasmine
£10.00 GBP

Peru Tapir Andino Yellow Honey coffee offers a vibrant and layered cup with a refined sweetness. The yellow honey process enhances its natural fruitiness while maintaining a smooth, rich body.

On the palate, you’ll first notice the blueberry top note, juicy and bright, followed by the round sweetness of ripe cherry, adding depth and richness. The finish is delicate and floral, with a lingering hint of jasmine, giving the cup a fragrant lift and a clean, elegant aftertaste.

Overall, it’s a beautifully balanced coffee, light to medium-bodied, aromatic, and expressive, with a harmony of fruity and floral character that showcases the unique terroir of the Peruvian Andes.

The San Ignacio Province sits at the top of the Cajamarca region in Northern Perú where the Rio Canchis splits the country from Ecuador. The farms are located in the buffer zones of a protected natural area, and have seen spectacled bears, cock-of-the-rocks, jaguars, tapirs and peccaries within their boundaries. This means working with an organic methodology and certification is a strategic point because through these standards, a culture of protection of wildlife and species in danger of extension is encouraged and created.

Coffee here is commonly fermented in wooden tanks built from fallen Romerillo trees (regulations prohibit the chopping down of them.) This is because when coffee ferments it generates heat, and the wood is better at dispersing the heat and therefore ensuring an even temperature throughout the fermentation tank, whereas with concrete, heat would be absorbed and stored more easily in the sides, creating differences throughout the batch and inconsistencies in the final cup.

Tapirs were chosen as another animal found in the forests around where the coffee is grown. They can sink to the bottom of a body of water like a ripe coffee cherry, where they feed for up to 90 seconds.

For the yellow honey the tanks are used for removing floaters from the ripe cherry, with pulped beans then undergoing a dry fermentation in the tanks for 8 hours. Beans are then moved to a mesh tray in a poly tunnel where they will remain for between 15 to 18 days until dry.

How will my coffee be packaged?

We use heat sealed bags with a one-way valve (to let gases escape but none in) and this will keep your coffee fresh for up to four months unopened (if you really want to keep it that long!)  We use box-bottomed resealable valve bags as our default but if you want the tall non-resealable valve bags then please ask in the notes for order section.  We then pack your bags of coffee into bespoke cardboard boxes.  These will prevent your coffee from being damaged in transit and are 100% recyclable.

Where does The Bean Shop deliver to?

We currently deliver all over the UK and Europe.  It can get a bit tricky further afield than that as it becomes increasingly difficult to keep track on the parcel's whereabouts. To be honest there is probably a coffee roaster a bit closer if you're outside Europe anyway!

How much does postage cost?

No-one really likes paying for postage but in order to avoid increasing our prices we have opted to charge a flat-rate of £3.00 for all our UK orders.  This is expensive if you only buy one bag of coffee but becomes very reasonable if you order more bags.  We use Royal Mail 1st class for orders up to 3 bags.  For orders 4 bags and over we use DPD 48 hour delivery as a default (this option will require a signature upon delivery.)

In geographically isolated areas of the UK, DPD can take longer than 48 hours so we have added the option of paying for Royal Mail which could be more efficient.

How long will it take?

We aim to deliver your order within 48 hours of receiving it (under normal circumstances) and are often much quicker!  During peak periods (i.e. Christmas) your order may take a little longer due to delays or extreme weather conditions.

If I'm not in?

For orders of 1 bag of coffee our boxes are post-box friendly so should be delivered whether or not you're in.  For larger parcels, usually the delivery person will leave a card saying it has been returned to the post depot where you can collect it from.  Many customers find it easier to have their coffee delivered to their place of work so that there is always someone there to accept it.
